From the desk of K. Jene' Carpenter, Principal

Thank you for your flexibility and patience during AM Arrival and PM dismissal.  I am sure many of you have observed changes in these procedures this year.  We have had officers from TPS Campus Police advising us in these new procedures to ensure the safety of all of our students at Patrick Henry.  On September 9, we opened up the bus loop at 7:35am for drop off ONLY against the yellow curb.  Do not drop off on the red curb and/or coned curb.  If you choose this drop off option; please make sure your student exits the car on the passenger side and directly walks on the sidewalk.  If you must park for any time period; you must use the parking loop. We want to thank you ahead of time for your patience and flexibility as we tweak our procedures to make all students safe and secure.  Your child's safety is our number one priority.

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT

Thursday, September 12, 2013, 6-7:30pm

The evening will start in the gym with introductions of the teachers and staff from our new principal, Ms. Carpenter. Starting at 6:30pm parents will be allowed to walk down to the classrooms to visit your child's teacher(s).  We will rotate for a second session at 7:00pm to allow parents and guardians who have additional children the opportunity to meet the other teachers as well.

PTA will introduce new board members and highlight some past and future activities. We will provide refreshments in the hall and have a table for memberships and answer any questions.

Tiffany Riley and Mandy Shyers will be on hand to take those final t-shirt orders. Sales end September 13 and shirts will be delivered shortly after that.

A representative from the 5th Grade Committee will be on hand to update you on fundraising plans for the events planned for our 5th Grade Students.  We hope to be able to pay for a field trip, class shirts, yearbooks and other activities for the entire 5th Grade class.

We look forward to seeing everyone!

AAADD (Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder)

Recently, I was diagnosed with AAADD. This is how it presents itself . . .
I decided to water my garden. As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide my car needs washing. . . As I start toward the garage, I noticed that there is mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mail box earlier . . . I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.
I lay my car keys down on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table and notice that the can is full . . . So I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first. But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first.
I take my checkbook off the table and see that there is only one check left. My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Coke that I had been drinking earlier. I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over. I see now that the Coke is getting warm, so I decide I should put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.
As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye . . . they need to be watered. I set the Coke down on the counter and I discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning. I decide I'd better put them back on my desk, but first, I'm going to water the flowers . . .
I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly, I spot the TV remote. Someone left it on the kitchen table. I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I will be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs. . . but first . . . I'll water the flowers.
I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor. So I set the remote back down on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill. Then I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.
1. The car isn't washed.
2. The bills aren't paid.
3. There's a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter.
4. The flowers don't have enough water.
5. There is still only one check in my checkbook.
6. I can't find the remote, I can't find my glasses and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.
Then when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day long and I'm REALLY TIRED! I realize this is a serious problem and I'll try to get some help for it soon, but first . . . I'll think I'll check my emails. Do me a favor, will you? Tell everybody you know about this message, because I don't remember who I've told about it. Don't laugh! If this isn't you yet, your day is coming!!
